Ordinary neodymium magnets only use one side of their magnetic field to stick to metal which means they’re only using half of their available strength. However, if add a steel cup, the other pole of the magnet to be used which increases the strength of the magnet too much higher than that of a normal neodymium magnet. At the same time, the steel cup also protects the magnet from being damaged when frequently used but also makes the other side magnetically weak.
Why would I need a magnet that strong?
Because these magnet fishing magnets are tested on a totally flat, clean piece of 1/2″ thick steel. When you go magnet fishing you will find items that have been in the water for many years, so there are rust, a lot of it. Rust significantly decreases the pulling power of the magnet. So, the higher pull power on the magnet, the bigger are the chances that you won’t drop your item you hooked on to.
Please use extreme caution when using this magnet. This magnet is extremely strong and must be handled with care to avoid personal injury and damage to the magnets. Fingers and other body parts can get severely pinched between two attracting magnets. When handling this magnet please be keenly aware of any other metal that may come close to the magnet. Not doing so may cause unnoticed metal objects to jump from your surroundings and cause pinching injuries to your hand and fingers. This magnet can also damage electronic devices computers audio tapes and CD's and be kept away from Ironware and some easily magnetized iron products, such as monitors, bank cards, computers, televisions.
